CBO sent a memo

http://www.cbo.gov/doc.cfm?index=12674

Just a friendly little reminder to Congress, that our budgetless government is running on “continuing resolutions” including a whole bunch of spending on agancies and programs whose legislative authorization has expired already as well as a whole bunch whose authorizaion is about to expire in September.  Almost a trillion dollars in spending that is still being spent, much of it now without any legal authority.

Some of it may be constitutionally valid.  A lot of stuff on the list is just crazy.  Some of it is for stuff like block grants to promote energy efficieny.  Caulkers.  $2 billion worth.  That’s a lot of caulk.  Not sure which article or section of the Constitution had the government involved with caulking.  Plus as soon as the caulk is applied it stops being “general welfare” and becomes specific welfare, benefiting the caulkee.

Maybe I ought to send this to my Rep. Whadayathink? Think it would get anywhere?

  2. drrik says:

I’m always in favor of MORE communication.

  3. CW says:

I think it would be a very wise and clever strategy for republicans to make this a campaign against a lawless administration, and really drum it home. No budget, lack of legal spending authority, unelected czars running things… The only time they seem to concern themselves with the law is when they want to smack down a state that gets out of line with the Left’s agenda.

I think it would be a winner.

  4. drrik says:

“Wise and clever strategy” and “republican” don’t go in the same sentence. Too many instance of the republicans folding tents and going home at the first sign of any opposition. Almost like they forget who they are. Doesn’t help that the left-wing press is so slanted against them in both headlines and articles. Unless the repubs put in some energy in to developing viable alternative means of media communication and reinforcing those channels, their continuing losses are a fiat accompli. Need GBTV and the equivalent to start replacing NBC. Can’t even believe that some folks like Olberman still are seen as legitimate news.

  5. CW says:

    >>‘“Wise and clever strategy” and “republican” don’t go in the same sentence.’

    Hahahaha! That’s true.

    Touché!
