Think you can keep it?

When Obamacare was instigated, the lib-probs INSISTED that the mandate of the government being able to force everyone to purchase healthcare was absolutely necessary in order for the law to function.  They took out the boilerplate that goes along with most legislation that allows severablity, ie that a part of a bill that is actually not legal under our Constitution can be taken out of a bill and the rest of it could still function.  Because without the government being able to force healthy people and younger people to buy insurance, there was no way to afford to pay for all of the things that the government was forcing the insurance companies to provide.  In fact, that guaranteed access to cash was the only reason that the insurance companies didn’t launch a massive PR campaign and try to shoot it down.  They were essentially promised that they would still be able to stay in business.

Now, shocker, it seems that the majority of the Supreme Court justices have actually READ the Constitution and decided that the language there is NOT all that esoteric and that there is no way on God’s green earth that it intended that the federal government do anything remotely like telling people what they have to purchase.  Even stacking the Court with folks who would vote to rubberstamp anything that Presbo likes hasn’t been enough to outweigh the majority of folks there.  So it looks superficially as though the individual mandate is going to be struck down.  Not any way for the majority of the justices to be able to vote that it is constitutional and keep a straight face or live with themselves.  Just too blatantly NOT constitutional.

So now the lib-progs have turned about and are scrambling, stating that “of course” even though the severablity language was taken out of the bill, that the rest of the bill CAN stand alone.  And it will still do what they want.

Because without, the mandate, there is ultimately no reason for anyone to purchase insurance up until right when they get sick.  Obamcare mandates that the insurance companies CANNOT refuse coverage to anyone for any reason.  So what this is going to do, as the public gradually comes to realize that this is an option, is that most everyone except for a few diehards who are clueless or rigidly habitual will decide to quit buying insurance.  No need to have that carrying cost.  Used to be not that necessary if you were young and healthy.  Now it is not necessary unless you are stupid, independently wealthy, or masochistic and like the pain of shelling out money for something that you no longer need to purchase until it’s the last minute.

So the cost of insurance is going to rise and rise until the cost of insurance actually approaches the actual cost of getting the medical care itself.  And well before that happens, the medical insurance business will collapse and the companies that are doing that will get into another line of work, and the only way anyone will then be able to have any insurance in this country will be if Congress then passes ANOTHER massive spending bill to set up a government operated and rationing healthcare “insurance” plan.

Which was the lib-prog goal all along.
