Damage-control vs uncontrolled

The White House has issued 8 pages of objections to the National Defense Authorization Bill wending its way through Congress.  Everything from not giving Purple Heart medals to the Little Rock, Arkansas soldiers who were gunned down by recent Muslim convert Abdulhakim Mujahid Muhammad; to not performing same-sex marriage ceremonies on military property or penalizing military chaplains who refuse to do them at all; to cutting funding going to Pakistan until it opens back up US forces supply routes that it has closed;to ground work for a missile defense site on the east coast to counter the growing missile threat from Iran; to capping the degree to which our military personnel and nuclear deterrent can be cut each year.

The House Armed Services Committee passed H.R. 4310 on May 9 by a 56-5 vote.

The White HOuse said that it objected because the bill  would “impede the ability  of the Administration to execute the new defense strategy and to  properly direct scarce resources.”

I think that “execute” is the right word here.  Not that it matters, since Presbo has shown no inclination to be limited by the laws passed by Congress, and Congress has shown no ability to hold him accountable for this disinclination, but even the democratically bottle-necked Congress is not ready to go along publicly with having our defense capability executed.
