Leon Panetta, our current Secretary of Defense, has decided to weigh in on prospect of war with Syria. Apparently there is starting to be a hue and cry because the Syrian President, Bashar al-Assad has been more-and-more violent suppressing the more-and-more violent uprising. Many are troubled that what is going on there continues to escalate towards an all-out civil war. Neither the Syrian government nor the Syrian rebels have declared war on or threatened any people or property of the United States. Nor do we have any treaties with anyone that mandate that we intervene because of the threat. And we do have that little thing called the Constitution which says that it is the duty and responsibility of Congress only as to when to declare and go to war.
Mr. Panetta however know on which side his bread is buttered and has become a spokesman and justifier for his boss to rubberstamp approval of doing whatever Presbo desires, without bothering with the Constitution. And if you have a military that is not conscripted, and within which there are none that will challenge the power of the presidency to direct and wage his own personal war, then we will go to war on the whim of the president.
But not just the president. We are also now following the whims and desires of the UN as well, our sovereignty having been given over to them by Presbo.
Per Panetta, “But, ultimately, you know, the international community and the president of the United States are going to have to decide what steps to take,”
War is now a whim/whim.
After all, Assad is laying waste to the rebels and killing people without justification, just because they no longer want to be ruled by his regime. Which is what Lincoln did.
