Where are we REALLY?

Total family income for the year $21,700

Amount spent by the  family last year $38,200

Last year’s outstanding credit card balance $142,710

Additional credit card charges for this year $16,500

Total planned decrease in the family spending budget this year $3.85

Now multiply each number by a hundred billion and you’ve got the current US economy.

Because “unsustainable” is such a vague word that many people have trouble getting their  head around.

About drrik

3rd career and 2nd childhood. Spends spare time repairing old things. Aspires to burn more gasoline, gunpowder, and ink in pursuit of slowing down. Child of the 60s and aspiring student of history. No desire to see us repeat the failed social experiments that keep failing for lack of human beings that meet the left wing standards and have to be killed off. Did engineering long enough to realize that very little is new and the wheel does not need to be reinvented.

But still not so bad that they are doing anything to disturb the assump of normality. When the trade towers fell such was the built in desire to treat things going on as normal that some of the people evacuating the building as the planes burned in the floor above, that they left the line for the stairs and went back to their cubicles to go turn off their computers. That’s where I think we are economically. The crash will take a couple of years. More than one if we are not pulled down by the sucton of Greece. Less than 10. Probably less than 7. Going to be a hell of a ride.
