We just “sold” Egypt 2 nuclear subs.
Nuclear. For real. Submarines. A billion dollars worth. Which we couldn’t really do because they already owed us a billion dollars. Not to mention the billion and a half that we had given to the military there just to keep things “stable”. This was an additional billion that we had “loaned” the new government to get them started. Since they were not all that stable. This is the Muslim Brotherhood we’re talking about. Apparently our horse in that race. And “we” wanted them to be the winner. So we have to keep paying to keep them viable as being in charge.
But one of THEIR big issues is Israel. Not because Israel was bothering them. Israel wasn’t. But Israel has just discovered that they have hundreds of billions of barrels of oil, that they could develop and suddenly become a superpower, and not have to bother with working in the kibbutz anymore. Just roll out the oil checks to everyone in Israel. All of the Jews that had been suffering the daily rocket barrages would suddenly be as wealthy as the Saudi royal family if that oil got drilled. Plus Israel just bought a half-dozen Russian subs to try to defend the oil wells. So of course Egypt had to have nuclear subs too.
Problem was that outstanding billion that they owed us. So in order to send them subs, we had to ‘forgive’ the billion and then agree to take in exchange for the subs, a promised billion that Egypt was supposed to get from OTHER countries as additional foreign aid.
So we have just basically given them the subs. Which seems to Israel like a particularly hostile thing for us to have done. And then when Netanyahu asked for an audience to meet with Presbo, he was shrugged off as being too busy, what with Presbo’s Letterman spot and all.
So it’s looking to Netanyahu like the folks running the US government (ie Presbo) are pretty hostile to Israel and not bothering to hide it any more. and that this is likely to get worse if Presbo is re-elected. So that if Israel wants to do something about the A-bomb that Iran is building to bomb Israel, they had best do something about it BEFORE the election, since the election is still (per the media) too close to call and they may not have any option AFTER the election, since Presbo may even be inclined to bomb Israel himself. (Unclear how the military would respond to an order to bomb an ally). But Netanyahu is facing his own hostile electorate who does not want a war and may drop him if he attacks too soon. Part of leading the pack is that you periodically look back to be sure the pack is still behind you.
So Iran is likely to get warmer soon, which dovetails nicely into Presbo’s plan to get rid of the current government there and install the Muslim Brotherhood anyway. And if he is not reelected, then his window to act himself narrows down to just 2 months.
